February is almost over and here at JindyDale Farms we are already preparing for spring. Last week we received 200 baby chicks who will grow up to become egg layers for next year. Jack has built 4 new chicken tractors for raising our broilers out on pasture. The first batch of 300 broilers will be arriving in just a few weeks. We have 135 laying hens so we will soon have over 600 chickens at one time! The first batch of broilers will be ready to sell in May so we will soon be taking pre-orders for those who want whole chickens for their freezer. We have several cows expecting calves in the next couple of months. That's always an exciting time on the farm. I bought Jack a new puppy for Christmas; an Australian shepherd that we named Riley. Hoping he will become a cattle dog to help Jack round up all these animals when needed. We haven't had a dog since our children were young (and they're both around 30 years old now.) Riley has already filled us with joy and laughter over his crazy antics and he's keeping Jack company on the farm and in the truck on road trips. I'm really going to try and blog more this year to keep you informed about the goings-on here at the farm.
