Whew! So much has happened since my first blog. We did have a successful calving season with all 14 calves born alive and healthy. We decided to open a farm store where we would sell our beef as individual cuts just like you get in the supermarket but our meat will be frozen so that no preservatives have to be used. We found a USDA inspected facility to do the processing and took the first 2 calves in December. Then my husband, Jack, had a heart attack on Dec 29, went into the hospital where they found a 95% blockage in the widowmaker artery. He then had bypass surgery on Jan 2. He has made a full recovery with no damage to the heart muscle. Needless to say he could not go with me in January to pick up the meat or help much with getting the farm store set up. But with the help of family and good friends, everything came together and we started selling the meat the last week of January. So far we are getting a really good response even though we have done very little advertising.
The chickens have started laying again after a short break for the winter so I am now getting about a dozen eggs a day and have started selling them also at the farm store for $3 a dozen.
We are really excited about the possibilities for the future of the farm. We are contemplating adding whole chickens for sale and possible lamb if we see enough demand for either. Please drop us a line if you
